Mount St Joseph School – Bolton
Bolton Council raised an invitation to tender for the replacement of an existing modular classroom facility at Mount St Joseph school with a more up-to-date, energy efficient and bespoke replacement building. Our client, who is a respected local building contractor, worked with us closely to identify a cost-effective solution for the school’s needs and was ultimately successful in winning the tender award. Our professional approach and knowledge helped the contractor secure the project.
Using the existing building’s foundation ultimately saved money and also cut out the requirement to demolish and rebuild from scratch. We managed to retain an existing concrete ramp. The project was to install a refurbished five-bay, 15m x 10m double classroom.
The school had previously needed to demolish an existing modular building on site, and it concerned both the site manager and the school’s business manager that the previous contractor had left debris lying around, giving the school an additional cost for the cleaning of the mess. The approach we took was to simply remove the old building, transporting it away from the site for demolition in a far safer, more controlled manner that was, ultimately, tidier for the school.
From the planning permission being granted and the initial groundwork preparation the entire project took five weeks to complete and the school was then able to take occupancy by the start of the new school term.
