Wellingborough Independent School
Wellingborough Independent School is about to embark on a phased rebuilding programme to replace various parts of the existing buildings. Several of the current buildings are due to be demolished and then replaced with new, state-of-the-art ones to enhance the school’s facilities further and temporary accommodation was needed to support the ongoing teaching provision during the building phase. They requested a 42m x 12m 14 bay refurbished modular building to provide seven classrooms, a staffroom, office and lobby areas as well as kitchen and toilet facilities.
The site was tricky to access with limited space to position the building as mature trees surrounded the footprint and the terrain needed special measures to negotiate a 3.5 metre rise in ground levels to situate the building. We constructed a temporary haul road to create the access we needed to gain sufficient access to the site. When bad weather hampered the installation process we remedied the stability of the road with specialist equipment to allow the installation to continue unhindered.
The groundwork, construction and handover were all able to take place during the summer holidays and a further project to relocate the building to another part of the school in a couple of years’ time has been suggested.
The foundations were designed and constructed by structural engineers and foul and stormwater drainage was constructed and installed along with mains electrical connections. The clients have been delighted with all aspects of the project.
