Benefits of a Modular Building for Secondary Schools
Secondary schools are choosing the modular building route over traditional methods, as it offers far more adaptability and flexibility in design, helps keep costs low, is quick to build and supports circular economy and sustainability initiatives.
Adaptable Design
Secondary schools often undergo changes in curriculum throughout the year, and modular buildings can support these changing needs thanks to adaptable designs that can be modified and refurbished with ease. One term the building might be a classroom, and the next a sports facility or school canteen.
Quality Materials
Our modular secondary school buildings are constructed from the highest quality materials that adhere to all building regulations and educational requirements. If you’re looking for a long-term solution to meet capacity or gain high-level facilities at your school, our modular solutions are built to last for decades.
Affordability
Being constructed in a controlled factory setting, our secondary school buildings offer a more affordable way to gain brand-new facilities. Prefabricated construction means less material waste and more standardised procedures, speeding up build times and keeping costs low. We also offer fully refurbished used classrooms as an even more cost-effective option.
Additional Capacity
Your secondary school is likely facing capacity constraints and needs a solution to meet growing student numbers and the need for additional facilities. Modular secondary school facilities are the fast and affordable way to meet a range of needs, whether it’s more classrooms, sports halls, changing rooms, SEN spaces or even canteens.
Fast Off-Site Build Times
Modular secondary school classrooms and other facilities can be built up to 50% faster compared to using traditional construction methods and designs. Being built offsite to reduce disruption during term time, modules can then be installed on site in a matter of days or weeks. We often complete projects during holiday periods to further limit disruption.
Circular Construction
Our secondary school building solutions help support your school’s sustainability goals, thanks to standardised construction methods that reduce waste, and providing a long-lasting investment that’s made from sustainable and durable materials. Choose to include renewable energy systems like solar panels, and you can gain facilities that have a minimal impact on the environment.
Secondary School Buildings We Build
Secondary schools feature a wide range of buildings and typical facilities for learning, sports, special educational needs and hygiene. At MPB Temporary Classrooms, we can design and install completely bespoke modular secondary school facilities to meet direct needs.
Modular Classrooms
We can design dedicated modular classrooms for secondary schools to support a range of subjects. We can construct single classrooms that accommodate a class of 30 students, as well as larger double modular classrooms that can feature additional facilities like toilets and kitchenettes. Our dedicated secondary school classroom facilities cover everything from science classes and food tech to media studies, computing and design technology.
Modular SEND Classrooms
We have ample experience designing, building and installing modular SEND classrooms for secondary schools to support students with a range of special educational needs. During your build we can include sensory friendly features such as soft lighting and acoustic insulation, as well as include access ramps, DDA-toilet facilities and other specific facilities to support SEND students.
School Canteens
Our secondary school buildings include portable site canteens for feeding hungry students during lunch breaks and for school events held throughout the year. These units can seamlessly fit on your school grounds, and can feature simple kitchenettes or be fully kitted out with equipment to feed hundreds of students daily.
Temporary Sports Buildings
The seriousness of sports is taken to a whole new level for students attending secondary school. That’s why we help provide modular sports buildings for PE classes, clubs and extra-curricular activities. Benefit from temporary structures for football, netball, tennis, rugby and other popular activities. We also offer the option for portable changing rooms within the design, or to sit next to the main sports building.
Portable Toilet Blocks
We can rapidly install portable toilet and shower blocks for secondary schools across the UK. We provide sanitary spaces for students that are fitted with essential plumbing features, and can relocate these facilities to different areas if required. Key features of these facilities include private cubicles, showers, ventilation systems, non-slip flooring and handwashing stations.

Additional Features for Your Secondary School Building
Every secondary school has different operational requirements, from general teaching spaces to specialist classrooms and staff facilities. As part of our turnkey modular building solutions, we can incorporate a wide range of optional features to improve comfort, accessibility, compliance and day-to-day functionality.
Additional Facilities Include:

Planning Applications & Building Regulations
We can manage the entire planning application and building regulations process on your behalf. With extensive experience delivering modular buildings for education, our team ensures every stage is completed accurately and in line with the latest regulatory requirements.
Exterior Cladding
Choose from a range of external cladding finishes, including CladEx, brick-slip and timber, to complement your existing secondary school buildings. These finishes also improve insulation, durability and the overall appearance of your new modular facility.
Groundworks
Once complete, we transport your modular secondary school building to your site and carry out full installation. Should your school’s requirements change in the future, the modular design also allows the building to be relocated, providing greater long-term flexibility.
Cabin Transport and Relocation
Our team undertakes all required groundworks, including foundations, drainage, ducting and mains service connections. Where site conditions allow, we can install non-invasive surface-mounted foundations to minimise disruption, while carrying out groundworks alongside manufacturing to keep your project on schedule.
Our Process
Step 01 – Design Phase
We begin by discussing your secondary school’s requirements and developing a bespoke modular building design. A full site survey allows us to assess access, identify any constraints and provide a detailed quotation on the proposed solution.
Step 02 – Planning and Compliance
If required, we will prepare and submit planning applications while managing the necessary building regulations approvals. Depending on the project, this stage typically takes between eight and twelve weeks.
Step 03 – Groundworks and Manufacturing
While our factory manufactures your modular building, our on-site team completes the necessary groundworks, drainage and utility connections. Each module undergoes rigorous quality checks before being prepared for delivery and installation.
Step 04 – Installation
The completed modules are delivered to your secondary school and installed by our experienced team. Where possible, installation can be scheduled during school holidays to minimise disruption, with all internal and external finishes completed to the agreed specification.
Step 05 – Snagging and Handover
Before handover, we carry out thorough snagging inspections to ensure every aspect of the building meets our quality standards and your expectations. Once complete, your new modular secondary school building is ready for immediate use.
